Rod has extensive experience in the development and delivery of urban and economic regeneration initiatives and area based regeneration strategies. He has a particular interest in the integration of economic development, urban regeneration, infrastructure and planning as a mechanism to deliver more resilient and sustainable ‘places’ and drive economic and employment growth.

Rod has worked for a range of clients in the public and private sectors principally in the Midlands.

Before joining Arup, Rod worked in the public sector for Advantage West Midlands, the former Regional Development Agency as Head of the Economic Regeneration Team for Birmingham, Solihull. Coventry and Warwickshire. Before this, Rod worked for Birmingham City Council’s Economic Development Department and three Local Authorities in the North, Midlands and London in the field of economic development and urban regeneration.

During his career, Rod has led, developed and delivered a comprehensive portfolio of economic and urban initiatives ranging from major site development and infrastructure projects, area-based regeneration initiatives, ERDF funded schemes and enterprise, supply chain, employment and skills initiatives. He has represented his organisation on a variety of Economic, Inward Investment and other Economic Development Boards and Working Groups.

In 2014, Rod was seconded to the DTI/UKTI as part of the Government’s High Value Opportunities programme. He was as part of a multidisciplinary team set up to identify and support UK infrastructure companies to win contracts overseas.
