Nicolas Barbian
Nicolas Barbian is a Principal Remediation Consultant within the Environment business line of ARCADIS. He has over fourteen years of experience working within the environmental remediation and chemical engineering design sector.
Since joining ARCADIS in 2007, Nicolas has been responsible for the design, commissioning and management of various soil, groundwater and wastewater treatment projects.
Areas of expertise include the design and specifications of treatment process units for the implementation of clean-up technologies such as In Situ Thermal Remediation, Vacuum Enhanced Recovery, Dual Phase Extraction, Groundwater Pumping and Air Stripping, Soil Vapour Extraction and Air Sparging. As a technical lead on projects, he is also responsible for the production and review of HazOp and FMEA Studies, P&ID Diagrams, Process Unit Specification, Pipework Infrastructure design, Pilot Testing analysis and general system control philosophy, to ensure processes are run in an efficient, safe, and sustainable manner, while meeting all regulatory consents. In addition, Nicolas provides support in the costing, planning, client & regulatory liaison, as well as permitting on various projects and proposals involving the treatment of a wide range of urban and industrial contaminants, including petroleum hydrocarbon, VOCs and chlorinated compounds within the Oil & Gas, Automotive, and Chemical Industries.
Nicolas holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering, an MSc in Environmental Technology and is a regular contributor to major international conferences.
