Ben Fretwell

Associate Director, Wood Environment & Infrastructure

Ben is a contaminant hydrogeologist with 25 years experience, starting with a PhD study of the effect of water table fluctuations on contaminant distribution in the Chalk. Ben has since been at Wood and its predecessor companies Entec and Amec Foster Wheeler. 

He specialises in understanding the behaviour of contaminants in groundwater through: investigation and monitoring; the development of robust conceptual models and modelling of contaminant transport; detailed quantitative risk assessment; and groundwater remediation with a particular focus on detailed quantitative risk assessment.

Ben has authored national guidance for CL:AIRE, UK Water Industry Research, Environment Agency and Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, including guidance on permeable reactive barriers, groundwater monitoring point design and the use of hydrocarbon analysis in hydrogeological risk assessment.
