Simon Talbot

Managing Director, GGS

Simon is a founder and managing director of Ground-Gas Solutions Ltd. With over thirty years experience as a professional geologist, Simon has devoted more than twenty years to ground-gas contamination issues and innovative environmental monitoring methodologies.

Simon has a first degree in Geology from University of Manchester and a Masters in Engineering Geology from University of Leeds. He is a chartered engineer through the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining and is a Fellow of the Geological Society.

Simon has worked for a number of national and international companies in Africa and the UK before being appointed head of the Greater Manchester Geological Unit (GMGU) in 1998. Here Simon managed a multidisciplinary team providing a minerals and waste planning and contaminated land services to local authorities, developers and their consultants. The Unit also specialised in evaluating and managing the ground-gas contamination hazards associated with former landfills and brownfield land redevelopment.

A successful collaboration with the University of Manchester led Simon to develop the continuous ground-gas monitoring methodology and in 2009 Simon founded Ground-Gas Solutions Ltd (GGS). GGS is now the UK’s leading consultancy specialising in continuous ground-gas monitoring and risk assessment and is employed by regulators, land owners, developers and consultants.

Simon regularly contributes to specialist training events and speaks at national and international conferences on ground-gas contamination issues. He is the author of a number of guidance documents and papers.
