Matt Ellis

Climate Resilience Officer, Greater Manchester Combined Authority

Matt holds a Degree and Diploma in Town and Country Planning from Newcastle University.  His career to date has had a specific focus on strategic spatial planning and its role in addressing environmental issues to better support sustainable economic growth and address climate resilience challenges.

This has given him 20 years’ experience in public sector and local government in the UK in environmental, sustainability and climate change adaptation fields.  In 2007, he became the Environment Agency’s ‘North West England Climate Adaptation’ specialist and, in 2012, was seconded into the Greater Manchester Combined Authority.  In this role he has provided climate resilience support for the City Region and its 10 constituent Districts. In this role Matt has been active in delivering city practitioner level climate resilience activity.  This has involved working with a wide range of partners to understand and address GM’s climate risks.  And most recently this has seen him working with the www.resin-cities-eu project where, as a City partner, GM is helping to co-create a range of tools for testing and understanding how to embed climate adaptation into local government practice and decision making with the aim of increasing locally driven adaptation activity.
