Principal Planning Officer (Major Projects), Wakefield Metropolitan District Council

Michael works for Wakefield Council as a Major Projects Officer, dealing with a broad range of major residential, commercial, industrial and energy related developments across the District. Michael is a Chartered Town Planner with over 12 years’ experience in Development Management including dealing with EIA applications and specialist applications related to minerals, waste, hazardous substances and contaminated land. Michael also works on behalf of the West Yorkshire Combined Authority to produce the annual Local Aggregates Assessment for West Yorkshire and was lead officer responsible for the production of the minerals policy content of the Bradford Local Plan.

Michael has spoken at a number of conferences on topics relating to the interface between the planning system and contaminated land assessment/ remediation and the challenges associated with the delivery of development on brownfield land. More recently Michael co-authored a paper on Brownfield Registers with Ann Barker which was published in the Journal of the Institution of Environmental Sciences in February 2018.
