Emma Tattersdill
Emma Tattersdill qualified a s a solicitor in 1998. She is a partner at national firm Freeths LLP.
With a practice dedicated to environmental law and litigation, Emma specialises in environmental permitting, contaminated land, waste management, water and air pollution, odour and noise issues. In the area of waste management and land remediation, Emma represented the successful appellant in Tarmac Aggregates Ltd v Secretary of State for the Environment Food and Rural Affairs [2015]EWCA Civ 1149, one of the leading cases on the definition of waste recovery.
As well as assisting clients with all aspects of environmental regulation and permitting, Emma advises on environmental constraints within the planning regime including Environmental Impact Assessment.
Emma is recognised as a Leader in the Field of environmental law by the Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners Legal Directories. According to Chambers and Partner 2018, Emma “is held in high esteem by market participants, who describe her as 'very commercially focused and able to fully grasp both legal and factual issues'.”
Prior to qualifying as a solicitor, Emma studied at the University of Strasbourg, where she also worked at the European Parliament. As a member of the UK Environmental Law Association (UKELA), Emma has actively participated in working groups exploring the potential impacts of Brexit on domestic environmental law and policy.
